The Missions Committee oversees our congregation’s giving and allocation of mission funds. At the local level, our congregation provides monthly support for 15 missionaries around the world and nearby mission groups. At the national level, Presbyterian Church USA has over 175 missionaries and contributes to other benevolent outreach programs some of which provide disaster relief, and/or provide funds to build infrastructures such as clean running water for underprivileged communities around the world. To fund such national efforts, our congregation participates in designated offerings that are coordinated at the national level. We also send funds to the Presbytery and Synod to support their mission efforts.

The best way to get involved in a mission is to join us on Sundays for our worship service and then ask an elder, deacon, or pastor (they’ll have name tags or a robe on) about these missions. You can also call the church office at any time.

Local Missions You Can Get Involved In:

  • The Soup Kitchen Team provides a team to work at El Caldito the second Wednesday of the month.
  • The Transient Meals Team prepares sack lunches to be handed out to transients from our Church Office.
  • The Transportation Committee assists by providing rides in the church’s wheelchair accessible van to church functions for those who would otherwise not able to attend.
  • The Visitation Committee coordinates with the Visitation Pastor to visit those in the hospital or who are home bound.
  • Our Congregational Life and Outreach committee regularly builds beds for kids in Las Cruces who are sleeping on the floor.
  • The Bed Building ministry makes bed frames for kids sleeping on the floor in Las Cruces. We partner with Ashley Homestore and LCPS to connect mattresses with kids in need.

Missions we are Honored to Support:

  • Africa:  We support a married couple who engages local peoples in Bible translation projects.  This activity provides opportunities to talk about the gospel. They work closely with locals in order to produce accurate bible translations. These missionaries also travel outside of Africa promoting Bible translation methods and literacy training.
  • Indonesia/Philippines:  We support a missionary who travels between Indonesia and the Philippines working with locals and translating the English Bible into the local language. She conducts regularly scheduled workshops teaching locals how to do translations.  This work often results in new dictionaries for local use.
  • Florida: A couple ministers to military personnel. Their outreach is evangelistic and counseling.  Some of the people they serve are suffering from the stress of past combat. Others are served with counseling which is providing life-help training for soldiers and their families. Regularly scheduled bible studies are also included.
  • Las Cruces: First Presbyterian Church provides monthly financial support for The Gospel Rescue Mission.
